Do you believe that being in jail for over 5 years can change someones identity?

In more detial, how does being incarcerated for over a period of five years change someones view of themself? It seems to me that if you are imprisoned for a very long time it can alter a persons personality dramatically. They can be a completly different person whether it's for the best or the worst you know? So what do you think?Do you believe that being in jail for over 5 years can change someones identity?
Absolutely, yes!!!!

Case in point, I personally have NOT been incarcerated but don't feel like the same person I was five years ago. So I can't imagine how radically different I would feel if if jail were introduced into the equation.

Now taking into consideration some of the factors that involve something as life changing as jail: separation, denial, structure, fear, abuse, etc. I don't think that any sane person could walk away from the experience, be it a %26quot;good%26quot; one (if there is such a thing!!!) or bad, the same. You would have effectively been removed from our free form society and placed in a confined area. That alone shows a major paradigm shift in an individual's existence and implies new perspective.Do you believe that being in jail for over 5 years can change someones identity?
It depends on the person and how they were treated when they were in there. It also depends on what kind of prison they were in and who they were associated with. I think for the most part it can change who you think you are but everybody is different.
