How does gentrification change community identity? (more info enclosed)?

I am studying gentrification with my class right now and I am just trying to get some opinions from other people to get a debate going.

Here's a definition of gentrification: The movement of higher-income households into older, less-expensive neighborhoods.

How do you think this will affect the identity of a community? How does gentrification change community identity? (more info enclosed)?
Vastly. I live near Chicago, (research Chicago gentrification,it's plentiful.)

Gangs, eventually (very reluctantly,) more to surrounding neighborhoods, and communities.

This causes MAJOR violence, for control of lucrative, but reduced drug territory.

Also, displaced residences, move to surrounding communities. Many times the residents bring the %26quot;new%26quot; community, into disarray. Very similar to the community, they once lived. How does gentrification change community identity? (more info enclosed)?
